Yearend Luncheon, May 12, 2026

Shari Cantor is the Mayor of West Hartford and has served as mayor since 2016. She is a native of West Hartford and a very active community leader.  One of her projects several years ago was to help restart the Seniors Job Bank. Shari serves as a Board member of her alma mater, University of Connecticut, since 2013. She currently chairs the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) Foundation Board of Directors, serves on the Board of Directors of the American School for the Deaf, a member of the Board of Directors of Hartford Stage and the West Hartford Art League. She also serves on the Advisory Boards of the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford and Playhouse on Park, among others.

Shari received the Hartford Business Journal’s “Women in Business” Award in March 2021 and was inducted into the University of Connecticut School of Business Hall of Fame in March 2017. She was recognized as a “Wonder Woman” by the Malta House of Care Clinic in 2016, a “Best Community Leader” by Hartford Magazine in 2012, and as West Hartford Rotarian of the Year for 2011-2012.

Shari has been married to her husband Michael and together were named as one of the Top 50 “Power Couples” by the Hartford Business Journal in February 2021. They are the proud parents of four sons, all of whom are graduates of West Hartford Public Schools.

Under her leadership the West Hartford tax rate increase has been less than 3 ½% for the last three years. She is proud to have West Harvard designated as a “Heart Safe Community”.  West Hartford continues to receive recognition awards for being the “Best Town to Live In”.

 

 

Dr Maric is the 17th president of the University of Connecticut since 2022.  She is responsible for Connecticut’s $3.2 billion public flagship university with six campuses, more than 33,500 students, and an extensive network of research and service enterprises that include the UConn Health system. Dr. Maric focuses on strengthening the University’s resources and operational position to ensure that UConn can thrive and fulfill its mission in teaching, research, public service, and outreach for years to come.

One of her first actions as President was to launch the University’s strategic planning effort, Envisioning 2034. This strategic plan outlines the University’s core values, strategic goals, and focus areas and, importantly, identifies key performance indicators for measuring success She believesStudents First. UConn Always. Huskies Forever.

Putting students first, Dr. Maric has spearheaded efforts to give every student opportunities to develop skills that maximize their creativity, innovation, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and emotional intelligence.

Under her leadership, undergraduate applications surpassed 60,000 in the most recent cycle. Dr. Maric is committed to building the endowment which reached $634.3 UConn is gearing up to announce a fundraising campaign with an ambitious goal of $1.5 billion.   Dr. Maric has built strong partnerships with the State of Connecticut and the private sector to advance strategic initiatives in research and education designed to leverage and build on UConn’s strengths in core areas aligned with state and federal priorities.

Dr. Maric maintains an active research program and continues to present at national and international conferences. Her scholarly work has resulted in more than 300 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings, 21 book chapters and invited review articles in major journals, one book published, and two books under preparation. She also has six issued patents and 11 published patent disclosures.

“Holiday Celebration”

Jim will return again this year and will be playing our favorite seasonal songs. In addition, we will have the opportunity to sing along and listen to Jim. We are pleased that Jim will also bring members of the Hot Cat Jazz Band.  The Old Guard cordially invites all members, all spouses, companions and friends along with staff from Presbyterian Church and the YMCA to attend this Old Guard Annual Holiday Music Celebration.

Memorial Day Parade 2025

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE INSTRUCTIONS

We are looking forward to your participation in the Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 26, 2025.

For the most up-to-date information, visit the parade website: www.WestHartfordCT/MemorialDayParade.

If you have any questions on the parade day, look for our parade volunteers wearing green CERT shirts and yellow vests to guide you.

Please share these instructions with each member of your contingent.

The parade begins at 10:00 a.m. Participants should be in place NO LATER than 9:30 a.m.

You are DIVISION 2 – Assemble on Farmington Avenue west of Four Mile Rd. See map on page 3.

PARKING: On Memorial Day, free parking is available at all municipal parking lots and garages. The easiest lots to access are located on Brace Road and Town Hall. The lots on LaSalle Road/Arapahoe and Farmington Avenue may be difficult to access before the parade.

In preparation for the Memorial Day parade, starting at Midnight on Monday, May 26, the Town will implement a parking ban along the parade route. On-street parking will be prohibited on the west side of Pleasant St. from Whitman Ave. to Farmington Ave.; on Farmington Ave., both sides, from Walden St. to Raymond Rd.; and on North Main St. and South Main St., both sides, from Brace Rd. to Burr St.

The Town will lift the parking ban after the parade. Parking fees will resume on Tuesday, May 27, at 6 AM. For more information, go to www.westhartfordct.gov/Parking.

PARADE LENGTH: The parade is 0.69 miles long. It begins on Farmington Avenue at Woodrow Street and ends at Town Hall, 50 South Main St. Buses may pick up their groups at Town Hall.

WEAR/BRING: Wear comfortable shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Bring water and your patriotic spirit. Bring a banner that identifies your group, if available.

RESTROOMS: There are no public restrooms in the five-division line-up areas. However, coffee shops and restaurants on Farmington Ave., South Main St., and LaSalle Rd. will be open.

You Are On TV: West Hartford Community TV will broadcast the parade live from the Veterans Memorial, located at the corner of South Main St. and Farmington Ave. Wave to the camera!

WEATHER: Information will be posted on the parade webpage if the parade is canceled due to inclement weather. Go to www.westhartfordct.gov/MemorialDayParade. There is no rain date.

Line of March: From the intersection of Woodrow Street and Farmington Avenue, the parade shall march east on Farmington Avenue to South Main Street.  The parade shall turn south and march on the east side of Unity Green on South Main Street.  The parade shall turn left into the Town Hall parking lot to be dismissed by Leaders.

We have reserved a block of 20 tickets in section 107 near home plate
along the first base line.  Please advise Ray or Bill as soon as possible of your ticket order, and in
any event, no later than Tuesday, April 1st! Let us know if you are attending with a
guest(s). We will distribute tickets to you (by hard copy or electronically) in advance
of gameday.

Plan on buying lunch or a snack at one of the park’s vendors as well as
slaking your thirst with an enjoyable beverage from a refreshment stand.
Parking at $5.00 per vehicle is available at nearby LAZ parking lots. Go to
the Hartford Yard Goats website to reserve a parking space at a LAZ lot of
your choice, or pay the attendant directly upon entering the lot of your
choice.
