Steve has written four nonfiction books: Our Man in Tokyo: An American Ambassador and the Countdown to Pearl Harbor, about Joseph C. Grew; A Splendid Savage: The Restless Life of Frederick Russell Burnham; A Labyrinth of Kingdoms: 10,000 Miles Through Islamic Africa, about the African explorer Heinrich Barth; and Code Name Ginger, about Dean Kamen and the invention of the Segway.
He has written for many national publications, including Smithsonian, National Geographic, and the Wall Street Journal.
He has been an adjunct professor at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. I also have taught writing and literature at Fairfield University and the University of Connecticut, and has spoken at many conferences about journalism, writing, and the subjects of his books.
