Though born in Queens, New York, I was raised in Cohasset, Massachusetts—a small seaside town just south of Boston and where I learned to swim, sail, and develop a lifelong appreciation for being near the water. After graduating from Cohasset High School, I headed north to Brunswick, Maine and attended Bowdoin College where I obtained my BA in Government/Legal Studies in 1982… and where I began figuring out what “real life” might look like.
My first job out of college was with AMICA Insurance, and they kindly shipped me to Hartford in 1983. I had never been to the “Insurance Capital” before, and what I initially assumed would be a short-term adventure actually
That ended up paving the way for what became a 38-year career with Gen Re spanning a variety of underwriting, marketing, and management
The real highlight, however, came outside the office. My wife, Kristen—a West Hartford native and proud Hall High School graduate—and I met the old fashioned way in 1984 at (the then-legendary and now defunct) Sean Patrick’s during its heyday on Trumbull Street in downtown Hartford. We married a few years later, and we are now approaching our 38th anniversary. Together, we raised three wonderful children—
These days, we’re enjoying the freedom and flexibility that comes with an empty nest, splitting our time between West Hartford and our second home in Kennebunkport, Maine. When we’re not catching up with family and friends at one of West Hartford’s many terrific dining establishments, you’ll likely find us relaxing somewhere near the water or walking through Elizabeth Park with our Australian Labradoodle, Rosie—who somehow remains the most indulged member of the household!
